What We Offer

This is a limited term position with an expected end date of December 31, 2026.

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $105,000/year. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

  • A guaranteed life-long monthly pension, once vested after 5 years of service

  • 457B Retirement Plan

  • 140 hours of PTO earned within first year + 11 paid holidays, 1 personal holiday and 1 volunteer day per year

Location & Schedule

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. In this position you can expect to work three (3) days in office. For your in-office days, you can expect to work on-site at the Webb Municipal Building (201 W. Colfax Ave., Denver, CO 80202). A 9/80 flex option could become available after probation.

The Senior City Planner – Downtown Area Plan position will be a part of our Planning Services Division’s Planning and Implementation Team and will serve as the city’s project manager for the ongoing Downtown Area Plan. Future work tasks may include planning and implementation of transit-oriented development sites as part of a CPD team focused on delivering special projects.  The ideal candidate will offer experience in project management, site development and implementation planning in highly urban, mixed-use spaces with a strong commitment to advancing equity and advancing the City’s adopted plans, including Comprehensive Plan 2040 and Blueprint Denver.

Small area plans are typically interdisciplinary planning initiatives that address diverse topics including multi-modal transportation, land use, infrastructure, urban design, equity, housing, economic development, sustainability, and quality of life. Project management activities include management of scope, quality, schedule, costs, personnel, consultants, contract documents and communications; and oversees consultants and assures contract compliance.
