Job Description
Mission Technologies, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is looking for a qualified individual to fill the role of USCG Near Coastal Licensed Master Boat Captain (500-Ton Vessel) for their Advanced Modeling and Simulation Technical Operation. This person would work with a team of Government and/or military personnel on-site at NIWC PAC that manages high-visibility projects as well as establishing and maintaining best-practices within the organization.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Serve as the licensed master of a 500-ton vessel operating in near coastal waters.
- Ensure the safe navigation, operation, and maintenance of the vessel, crew, and passengers in accordance with US Coast Guard regulations and industry best practices.
- Oversee all aspects of vessel operations, including navigation, maneuvering, cargo handling, and emergency procedures.
- Supervise and train crew members on safety protocols, emergency response procedures, and operational tasks.
- Maintain accurate records of vessel movements, crew assignments, maintenance activities, and safety inspections.
- Monitor weather conditions, sea state, and other environmental factors to assess risks and make informed decisions regarding voyage planning and route adjustments.
- Communicate with port authorities, maritime agencies, and other vessels to coordinate vessel movements and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
- Respond to emergencies, including medical incidents, fires, collisions, and search and rescue operations, with professionalism and efficiency.
- Conduct regular drills and training exercises to ensure crew readiness and proficiency in emergency procedures.
- Uphold high standards of professionalism, integrity, and safety culture in all aspects of vessel operations.
Minimum Qualifications

- Must hold an active Secret Clearance
Preferred Requirements
- Maritime operations experience.
- Small boat familiarization, able to work on the water in a challenging environment and operate independently or as part of a small team.
Physical Requirements
May be required to visit job site in an industrial or shipboard environment. Normally not required to lift more than 40 pounds higher than three feet above feet/floor level.
