What's the role?

Etsy is seeking an experienced, customer-centric Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Personalization Engine Platform Foundations Team. This team is a part of the larger Platform Initiative within the Personalization Engine (Perso Engine for short) organization, which enables over 20+ product engineering teams to build ML-powered recommendations, personalization, and discovery products. As a Manager on the Perso Engine Foundations Team, you will be directly responsible for enabling the science & algorithm teams within Perso Engine, as well as creating tools and platforms that allow the rest of the company to easily understand and access the ML-powered “building blocks” that Perso Engine develops. You will also work closely with the centralized ML Enablement organization to build on top of their foundational ML infrastructure.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Engineering and the base salary range will be 226,000-294,000 USD. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Brooklyn office in an in-person or flex capacity. The Personalization Engine Platform Initiative develops and maintains the core infrastructure, customer

 interfaces, and tooling that empowers and accelerates ML-driven personalization at scale across Etsy.

What does the day-to-day look like?

• Define a strategy for the team that ladders up to the goals of the Perso Platform Initiative
• Manage cross-functional relationships with downstream data and infrastructure teams
• Foster a culture of collaboration with science & algorithms teams within Perso Engine
• Manage relationships with customer teams, marketing and democratizing capabilities
• Coach and develop career opportunities for squad leads

Qualifications

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• Customer-centric mindset while balancing your teams’ desire to grow in skill and scope
• Previous hands-on experience in building large-scale, distributed systems
• Experience working with machine learning systems and alongside scientists and MLEs
• Proven track record for platform or infrastructure teams
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in order to advocate and bring visibility to your Initiative while managing important cross-functional relationships
