Overview
WHO WE ARE: Established locally in 1911, Volunteers of America Northern California & Northern Nevada (VOA NCNN) is one of the largest providers of social services in the region. Our professional staff operates more than 40 locally managed and delivered programs. Services provided include food and shelter, counseling, independent living and parenting skills, substance abuse treatment and rehabilitation, and job training. Every night VOA NCNN provides shelter or housing to over 3,500 men, women, and children.

PROGRAM AND LOCATION: VOA Family Services is recruiting a full-time Children Services Coordinator to work on the Options Transitional Living team. VOA's Family Services is a transitional housing program for homeless families. Our transitional housing program for women and children provides homeless families with a safe environment for their children and themselves to live while they seek permanent housing and employment. Services include individual and group counseling by dedicated case managers, life skills and parenting classes, and referrals for permanent housing. Full-time employees (working 30 or more hours a week) are eligible for a benefits package that includes paid holidays, vacation, health, dental, vision, life, and short-term disability insurance coverage.
Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Children Services Coordinator is responsible for assuring quality services to all program participants compassionately and professionally as it relates to the specific program objectives. Objectives include supportive interaction with participant families and team members, assessment of participant family needs, and performance of all work duties as required. Work is performed in a cost-effective and service-oriented manner related to established organizational standards.
OBJECTIVES/ACTIVITIES:
A. Responsible for performing daily work requirements to achieve established objectives of the department.
1. Complete daily shift logs, incident reports, or behavior alerts as needed.2. Communicate with service providers and external county/state/city program representatives as required.3. Provide crisis intervention as needed.4. Respond to child-related questions and concerns.5. Provide children with a safe, supportive environment free from ethnic or social prejudices.6. Comprehend and adhere to ethical guidelines and confidentiality laws.7. Communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions.
B. Responsible for assistance with child development.
1. Explain children's services program requirements and regulations to new families upon intake.2. Implement and maintain children’s case files to assist the Case Manager and participant families with all child-related issues, including but not limited to school enrollment, medical information, and Child Protective Services information.3. Provide individual sessions twice monthly to assist parents with parenting skills and interventions with challenging children as needed.4. Facilitate childcare groups during client group times each week.5. Facilitate parenting skills group weekly.6. Provide appropriate referrals as needed.7. Role model positive behavior to help parents as they work on parenting skills.8. Develop and oversee childcare play curriculum
C. Responsible for all areas of daily program maintenance in compliance with company policies.
1. Document and report all client concerns and/or infractions that can impact the program security.2. Secure approval for exceptions to standard policy.3. Notify management of potential workflow problems and resource needs necessary to attain performance standards.4. Adhere to staffing schedules in order to provide adequate/safe staffing coverage and to accomplish program objectives.5. Provide emergency shift and/or office coverage as needed.6. Provide transportation, unit preparation, and urinalysis testing as needed. Perform reasonably related duties as assigned by the Director

1. Continually learn and enhance technical and interpersonal skills.2. Attend staff meetings/assigned training seminars and complete required certifications, i.e., CPR, First Aid, etc.
