Job Description Summary

The Gerson Lab is seeking a Research Specialist B/C to advance work related to the study of the metabolome-microbiome interface in cervical remodeling and preterm birth using in vitro models. The Research Specialist will be an integral part of the Gerson Laboratory. The individual will work alongside existing members of the laboratory to oversee and perform experiments pertaining to adverse obstetrical outcomes including preterm birth. The addition of this individual to the laboratory will facilitate the execution of existing and upcoming funded projects.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

Research Specialist B

  • Independently perform in vitro experiments, cellular functional assays, and RNA, DNA and protein-based assays
  • Maintain multiple immortalized and primary cell lines.
  • Use computer- based systems including and not limited to Prism, Excel, Word, and databases

Research Specialist C

  • Duties detailed above
  • Design, manage, and execute human/microbe co-culture in vitro models
  • Supervise, assist, and train other lab members vitro studies
  • Contribute to laboratory manager duties including lab maintenance/safety, ordering, communicating with collaborators, and abstract/manuscript preparation

Position contingent upon continued funding.

Qualifications:

Research Specialist B – Bachelors degree and 1 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Research Specialist C – Bachelors degree and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience in cell culture, protein assays, and DNA/RNA analyses required
  • Proficiency in experimental design required

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.
