Job Title: Accounting Generalist Lead
Department: Accounting
FLSA: Non-Exempt
General Function:
The Accounting Generalist Lead assists with the day-to-day operation of the accounts payable function, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payment transactions, along with assisting the payroll department.
When assigned to transportation, the role also supports accounting functions unique to the Transportation Department, such as freight and brokerage invoice processing, driver payroll, and related reporting.

Reporting Relations:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities – Core
(Performed in all Accounting Generalist Lead roles)
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting principles, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the full cycle of accounts payable activities, including invoice processing and payment disbursement.
- Assist Accounting Supervisor in weekly payroll processing.
- Maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure smooth payment processes.
- Perform time edits in timekeeping system.
- Resolve discrepancies or issues related to accounts payable promptly.
- Prepare and analyze accounts payable and payroll reports and metrics for management.
- Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes, including accruals and reconciliations.
- Aid in identifying opportunities for system improvements.
- Research accounting department problems, answer questions, and make recommendations to management.
- Report to work when scheduled and on time.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Transportation-Specific Responsibilities
(Performed when assigned to the Transportation Accounting Generalist Lead focus area)
- Perform verification of accounts payable for freight and brokerage invoices.
- Review accounts payable transactions for Transportation Department expenses, including truck maintenance invoices.
- Assure proper allocation of transportation expenses to general ledger accounts.
- Assist Transportation Accounting Supervisor in weekly payroll processing for drivers.
- Oversee the creation/modification process for new or existing supplier accounts in PDI’s payables system, including ACH payment profile setup.
- Assist with freight billing for contract business.
- Assist with management of collections on all freight accounts.
- Prepare and analyze transportation-specific reports and metrics for management.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
- Excellent understanding of accounting, bookkeeping, and payroll principles.
- Good problem solving, organization, attention to detail and follow through skills.
- Advanced Excel skills and the ability to analyze large sets of data.
- Experience in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
- Experience in payroll/human resource software (e.g., Workday).
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Two-year accounting degree or equivalent preferred.
- 3+ years of accounts payable experience and/or 3+ years of payroll experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- This job is considered sedentary to light in nature according to the Department of Labor Weight Classifications with the primary functions of the job being sedentary in nature. This is considered a semi-skilled position. Frequent to constant handling, grasping, pinching, full reaching motions occur, constant listening, talking or hearing.
Working Conditions:
- Office (climate controlled)
- May be required to go across warehouse dock to warehouse office while encountering cold temperatures (35º to -8º) and warehouse conditions.
