About the role

JOB SUMMARY

The Business Analyst serves as a critical partner to the Sr. Director of Analysis and Reporting and to the Global Development Team.  The role supports the Global Development hotel transactions team in KPI tracking, manages the industry-wide competitive hotel supply data, fact checks and communicates the company’s hotel growth story for any internal and external communications and presentations, and assists with the tracking of hotel transactions throughout the deal process in the company’s enterprise-level Salesforce system (OASIS).

With strong project management skills and a collaborative approach, they will partner with Global Development’s marketing, technology, and data governance teams to generate reports on hotel transactions and openings, communicate the performance of our brands and geographic growth, and give competitive context to the Company’s hotel transaction signings. The successful candidate will also champion improvements for processes related to deal signing, sales incentive goal setting, tracking and reporting the department’s key money payments - and play an essential role in driving sustainable strategic growth for the organization. 

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education and Experience

Required
•    Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent experience required in Business Administration, or related field 
•    3+ years of professional experience with demonstrated proficiency in Excel, strong project management skills, and the ability to communicate complex data insights clearly and effectively to various stakeholders 
•    A keen eye for detail and a commitment to ensuring data accuracy and consistency across systems is essential. The candidate should be adept at identifying discrepancies and implementing processes to achieve correct and consistent numbers.

Preferred
•    Hospitality industry experience.
•    Proficiency in using automated systems and advanced features of MS Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook and other database management programs.
•    Experience using Salesforce as an enterprise-level data management platform

 

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES 

•    Assist the Global Development Support organization in tracking and contextualizing Marriott’s hotel contract signings using Excel-based tools and templates. This includes delivering timely and accurate reporting on how many new hotel deals have been signed, as well as comparing performance against industry competitors, historical benchmarks, and annual goals. 
•    Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners to support business initiatives. 
•    Manage the competitive industry hotel supply data globally for the Development organization, including vendor relationship management, monthly data submissions, and monthly data receipt and maintenance; serve as the Global Development department point of contact for data and analysis requests regarding the company’s competitive position versus the industry. 
•    Manage and execute routine and ad hoc research on Marriott and industry hotel supply and growth metrics and assist in ensuring accuracy in growth-related content for MI’s public communications (e.g., regulatory reporting, public communications and press releases).
•    Assist Global Development team and other departments conducting research to analyze and interpret emerging trends in the industry, key competitors, and for Marriott – particularly in regards to market share and market saturation. 
•    Participate in various research projects including pipeline and industry hotel data, Smith Travel Research, Lodging Econometrics data, internet research, etc.
•    Support the quarterly bonus process for Marriott’s global development sales organization by partnering with the VP, Development Operations to ensure timely and accurate bonus payments. This includes reviewing year-to-date sales performance against goals, validating data across internal systems (primarily Excel and Salesforce), and identifying sales activity that qualifies for bonus multipliers or adjustments. The role requires strong attention to detail and comfort working with structured data, but does not involve advanced analytics or programming tools.
•    Support the tracking and processing of key money payments to Marriott’s owner community in conjunction with Marriott’s Development accounting team.
•    Conduct ad hoc analysis of Marriott and lodging industry data using Excel, Salesforce, and occasionally PowerBI.
•    Promote practical, user-friendly tools for hotel market analysis and reporting, predominantly using Excel.
•    Maintain expertise in departmental tools (predominantly Salesforce and other excel based templates) and train new and existing users on functionality.
