Your Specific Responsibilities:

 

This is a Career Service, Senior Community Health Nurse position within the Highlands County Health Department that represents the agency and its mission and values.  The incumbent is part of the organization and is expected to promote cooperation, courtesy, and teamwork. This position is under the direct supervision of the Community Health Nursing Supervisor.  This position is classified as a sensitive position.  Incumbent handles protected health information on a need-to-know basis following Department of Health Information Security and Privacy Policy and procedures. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

Other duties may be assigned:

• Provide clinical nursing functions in Adult Health, Child Health, Immunizations, Family Planning, STD, TB, and School Health units.
• Assist providers with exams and procedures; prepare and clean exam rooms and work areas.
• Perform vital signs and clinical procedures including height/weight, vision/hearing screening, urine dipstick, finger stick tests, blood lead, pregnancy tests, and EKGs.
• Provide HIV pre- and post-test counseling.
• Provide treatment and client education for STDs based on provider orders.
• Assist in care and management of active, suspected, and latent TB cases.
• Contact clients for follow-up, missed appointments, and referrals, coordinate with providers for clarification and orders.
• Administer medications under provider supervision; perform monthly medication inventory; manage pharmacy ordering, stocking, and returns.
• Perform venipuncture; prepare lab requisitions; collect and prepare specimens for lab processing.
• Obtain basic health histories and document findings in electronic medical records; assist with data input.
• Conduct medical record audits as required.
• Provides pregnancy testing, counseling, and referrals.
• Assist with child health school physicals.
• Evaluate immunization status; administer vaccines per CDC guidelines; document in FLSHOTS.
• Assist with school health program, including student health assessments, development of care/action plans for students, train and support health room staff, and assisting with mandated screenings.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

All Client Service Records (CSR’s) and Employee Activity Records (EARS) will be coded accurately and submitted within stated time frames.  Keeps immediate supervisor informed of nursing problems when appropriate.  Performs other related duties as assigned including requirements to work during or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.  Employees abide by State/Federal laws governing confidential and public information.  This position is classified as a sensitive/confidential position.  Incumbent handles protected health information on a need-to-know basis following Department of Health, Information Security and Privacy Policy including local operating procedures.  Works with health care providers in all clinics.  Maintains records including but not limited to nursing assessment, history, educational sessions, and counseling.  Instruct patients and families on how to carry out physicians’ orders.  This position assists with exams, educates clients regarding health and disease processes.  Other related duties as required by supervisor.
