Job Description Summary:

Implements and teaches the Avance to College educational program, courses, experiences, and services that will directly aid students in achieving educational objectives; maintain regular
office hours and assists in curriculum development and planning.

Job Description:

Description of Duties and Tasks 

Avance to College is a nine-month program that supports Spanish-speaking families who have at least one child who is younger than 5 years of age. The mission of Avance to College is to instill confidence in parents as their child's first and most important teacher, to strengthen students’ professional and academic skills, and to connect families with resources that can help them achieve the career and educational goals that they have for themselves. Students attend class for 3 hours per week, during which time they participate in lessons focused on parenting, leadership, and college and career readiness. Students also spend time in class making educational toys for their children and becoming familiar with college resources.

  • Teaching Avance to College Program using Avance National curriculum and teaching methods.

  • Facilitating communication between participants and college representatives.

  • Advising students of requirements established by Avance and Austin Community College for meeting course objectives, and periodically informing each student of their progress toward meeting graduation requirements.

  • Meeting with partners from Avance Austin and Austin Community College to discuss student progress and needs.

  • Creating a safe and positive classroom environment where parents feel respected and represented.

  • Establishing and maintaining an environment that is parent-centered, conducive to positive morale, and directed towards achievement of the project mission.

  • Ensuring high standards of ethics by maintaining high standards for participant confidentiality.

  • Following the toy-making sequence and pacing calendar.

  • Preparing weekly handouts, materials, and tools for class.

  • Maintaining frequent ongoing communication with individual students and class groups.

  • Prepares and administers examinations by-program established for the subject area of assignment.

  • Researches and recommends the revision, deletion, or addition of programs and courses to reflect the developmental changes occurring with the subject
