Job Description
WR Grace is a leading Manufacturer of Specialty Chemicals and is seeking an experienced Mobile Equipment Mechanic for our Baltimore/Curtis Bay, MD Plant. The Mobile Equipment Mechanic works closely with the site to perform operational and functional inspections along with repairs and maintenance on a variety of fleet vehicles and powered equipment. Mobile Equipment Mechanics are responsible for operating, inspecting, repairing, and maintaining machinery and mechanical equipment such as: LP, gas, and electric forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, pallet jacks, drum handlers, drum dumpers, floor sweepers, Skid Steers, backhoes, yard cranes, pickup trucks, and various other LP, gas, and electric equipment.
Responsibilities
- Comply with all plant environmental, health, safety, quality, and process safety standards and procedures.
- Identifies and reports hazards to supervision in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Interfaces and interacts effectively across all functional operational areas.
- Assists the Central Maintenance Shop in maintaining mobile and stationary equipment needed to support the site
- Perform inspections, repair, and maintenance operations on a variety of powered and non-powered equipment and vehicles
- Operate and perform diagnosis on equipment, maintain and repair hydraulic systems, routes and replaces hydraulic lines, check system for leaks and proper operation
- Perform diagnosis and repair on complex electrical systems
- Performs preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance on diesel engines, booms, electrical systems, including troubleshooting onboard computer systems, hydraulic systems (booms, outriggers, pumps) brakes, and other components.
- Road tests equipment to locate defects and check repair work.
- Perform minor welding repairs when required in a shop or plant environment.
- Uses acetylene, plasma cutter, or other burning equipment
- Performs welding using SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, or other welding procedures
- Sets up and operate drill press, grinder, shop tools, hand tools, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts
- Supports Maintenance and Reliability Excellence and Productivity initiatives.
- Completes required training within specified time frames.
- Use computer and telecommunications devices including keyboards and other forms of data entry and retrieval.
- Performs related assignments as required
Physical Requirements and Environment
- Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
- Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
Required Qualifications
- Highschool diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 8+ years of verifiable experience in industry as a certified mobile equipment mechanic, diesel mechanic, forklift mechanic, heavy equipment mechanic
- AC Drive Control Certification
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal or no supervision.
