About the Agency:

The Virginia Department of Military Affairs State Team provides professional and responsive state support functions to the Adjutant General of Virginia, the Virginia National Guard, the Virginia Air Guard, and the Virginia Defense Force in order to ensure their ability to support and defend the United States and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Purpose of Position:

Provides support in implementing the operation and maintenance plan for Maneuver Training Center (MTC)/Virginia National Guard facilities in assisting the Virginia Army National Guard in sustaining readiness and fulfilling our Federal and State missions. Provide first line supervision of Carpenter Sectional Operations and key control functions for the MTC, Fort Barfoot and other Virginia National Guard Facilities.

This position is based in Blackstone, Virginia. Telework is not eligible. The work hours of this position are 7:30am-4:00pm Monday-Friday.

Minimum Qualifications

Supervisory and organizational skills demonstrating the ability to supervise subordinate level staff;

Extensive technical knowledge of Carpentry and other woodwork methods, practices, & materials;

Knowledge of structural, finishing, painting & insulating work methods & materials;

Knowledge of key control management policies and procedures;

Ability to plan and direct multi-faceted programs;

Ability to analyze technical problems and recommend corrective solutions;

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;

Must be computer and Microsoft Office literate;

Knowledge of basic safety, and OSHA procedures and regulations;

Ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions and confined spaces;

Ability to carry, lift and place into position equipment weighing 50 pounds while wearing protective/safety equipment, in all weather conditions;

Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record is required.

Additional Considerations

Relevant training/certification such as DPOR, certificate of completion from an accredited trade or vocational school, or proof of completion of an apprenticeship program, etc. preferred.
