Job Description Summary:
The Cardiac Scientist reports to the Senior Manager, Medical Operations, under limited supervision, for performing evaluation, analysis, report generation, and quality control activities for cardiac safety data (for example, ECG, Holter) collected for clinical trials. There is extensive communication with site personnel, ICONplc Project Management and the Physician Readers, including Cardiologists.
Responsibilities:
Analyzing Holter data for arrhythmia, ischemia, conduction disorders, or heart rate variability
Producing Holter reports
Extracting ECGs from Holter data
Evaluating ECGs for quality and performing quality control on ECGs
Evaluating 12-lead ECGs, including measurement of PR, QRS, QT/QTc intervals, or ST segment if required, and quality control on Holter reports
Determining and confirming interpretations for ECG and Holter data, that is, perform responsibilities of Physician Reader, if requested by customer
Scanning, digitizing and measuring paper ECGs, including measurement of QT intervals
Participating in required Medical Imaging & Cardiac Safety Solutions training in GCP, Quality System Procedures and other job related training and maintaining required proficiency levels
Demonstrating initiative, professionalism and adaptability in problem-solving
Maintaining professional development through participation in professional meetings and career development programs
Understanding and supporting the Medical Imaging & Cardiac Safety Solutions mission, priority and Company values
Demonstrating real team player qualities and strong stress management skills
Proven ability to work on an independent basis and demonstrating knowledge of medical terminology are mandatory
Flexibility to work outside the normal business hours, when necessary, is required
Must be able to interact and communicate in English, both orally and written
The physical demands are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job
Education:
Medical diploma (MD) required
Work Experience Level:
Formal training or on the job training in reading and interpretation of ECGs and Holter scans required
Medical diploma (MD) with minimum three (3) years of clinical, research or other relevant experience preferred
Minimum three (3) years of ECG and arrhythmia recognition/interpretation are strongly preferred
Clinical trial industry experience preferred
Knowledge/Abilities –Technical Skills:
Team player qualities and strong stress management skills
Proven ability to work on an independent basis and demonstrating knowledge of medical terminology are mandatory
Computer literacy and training and experience in Microsoft Office products required
Communication Skills (Verbal/Written): Must be able to interact and communicate in English, both orally and written
