The director of the Calvin Startup Garage is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Calvin Startup Garage both on campus and in the community. The impact of this role is to help foster greater Christ-centered entrepreneurship in West Michigan and to ultimately meaningfully tilt the West Michigan business ecosystem to more greatly reflect the Kingdom of God. Responsibilities are divided between student-focused and community-focused areas. These areas nclude but are not limited to:
Student-focused:
- Hosting the Calvin Startup Garage each week during the academic year
- Securing speakers for the Calvin Startup Garage
- Reviewing student progress and providing feedback
- Meeting with students as-needed
- Planning and hosting Calving Startup Garage events (PitchUp, leadership retreat, etc)
- Connecting students with the broader entrepreneurial and business ecosystem (e.g. funding sources, professional clubs like EO, business leaders willing to serve as mentors, bringing students to events like 5x5).
- Overseeing the student leaders who run the Startup Garage which includes assigning and communicating roles, providing feedback on performance, and ensuring the ultimate success of these functions. Student leadership roles include but are not limited to sending out a weekly newsletter, on-campus PR, running the podcast, and speaker communication.
- Assembling the syllabus and schedule for the year.
- Assigning grades based on the syllabus.
- Attending meetings with Calvin staff as-needed.
- In partnership with the EIR, owning the overall strategy of the Startup Garage for students and making adjustments to the program as needed.
- Being a champion for the Startup Garage for the Calvin community (e.g. social media, conversation).
Community:
- Planning, promoting, and hosting Startup Garage dinners for the community to help foster entrepreneurship.
- Planning, promoting, and hosting community broader events that foster Christ-centered entrepreneurship (e.g. pitch competitions, speaking events, conferences, etc)
- Meeting with entrepreneurs and helping connect them to the resources they need for next steps (e.g. funding sources, mentors, clubs, etc).
- In partnership with the EIR, owning the overall strategy of the Startup Garage in the
- community and making adjustments to the program as needed.
- Being a community-wide champion for the Startup Garage (e.g. social media, conversation)
