Berklee’s campus in New York City has transformed the Power Station facility through cutting-edge technology while preserving the original studios' historic temples of sound. In 2021, BerkleeNYC opened a Master of Arts in Creative Media and Technology with three specializations (Songwriting and Production, Live Music Production and Design, and Writing and Production for Musical Theatre). Now entering its fourth academic year, Berklee NYC seeks an experienced Assistant Director of Academic Technology to join its expanding team.

Job Description:

The Assistant Director of Academic Technology is an experienced multimedia technician with knowledge of educational technology and experience across a range of audio and video systems, applications, and connectivity, as well as information technology, sound system design, and optimization, inventory management, audio and music production, and live sound reinforcement.
Reporting directly to the Director of Academic Operations with a dotted line the Director of Operations, the Assistant Director of Academic Technology will be responsible for overseeing the management and integration of educational technology systems at Berklee NYC, collaborating with program directors and additional key faculty to develop and implement educational and information technology systems to support a variety of learning experiences in classroom, studio, and theater environments.

The Assistant Director of Academic Technology will collaborate with the Technical Director and the technical maintenance staff to design and manage systems and workflows that support the efficient operation of a multi-room, multi-use, and multimedia environment serving both academic programs and commercial music clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, optimize, and support technology systems in all BNYC academic spaces, including classrooms, studios, black box theaters, and ad hoc presentation spaces

  • Manage the Academic Technology budget and direct software and hardware purchasing related to academic technology, manage software licensing, maintain the inventory of audiovisual equipment, and oversee the organization of storage spaces.

  • Collaborate effectively in ad hoc teams with other staff members within the IT organization, academic programs, and studio staff.

  • Provide technical leadership and support to academic sessions in the studios

  • Supervise and schedule educational service staff, student employees, and one (1) post-master fellow, ensuring academic spaces are optimized to meet program specifications and facilitate optimal learning and training for students 

  • Conduct reviews of existing Academic Technology policies, procedures, and documentation, and create new policies and systems when needed.

  • Supervise or provide additional technical coverage to execute academic events, including showcases, speaker presentations, and other educational sessions

  • Stay up to date on all areas of audio, video, and educational technologies to continually advance systems to support learning and training in BNYC’s academic facilities

  • Responsible for developing and managing technology partnerships to benefit academic programs and facilities. 

  • Provide direct technical support to BNYC’s major live events Collaborate with the facilities team as needed pertaining to the optimization of IT and other campus-wide technology and data systems.

  • Oversee and address classroom set-up needs and requests from faculty members.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required:

  • 4+ years of relevant experience as an A/V technician or manager in an academic environment

  • Progressive experience managing staff in a technical environment

  • Experience with and knowledge of analog and digital pro audio and video systems design and installation

  • Proficiency with Pro Tools, Logic, Dante, and other industry-standard audio and music production technologies

  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills to support advancing multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment

  • Experience with strategic planning and proposals related to technology investments/modifications (with rationale i.e. cost/benefit analysis) (preferred) 

  • Ability to troubleshoot and find workarounds in a fast-paced and demanding environment
