JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  Under the oversight of the Principal Investigator, the Nurse Practitioner participates in all aspects of healthcare and community and nursing education related to a large Tennessee Department of Health grant. The purpose of the grant is to establish a Mobile Health Unit (MHU) Program that delivers innovative, evidence-based healthcare services to rural populations in Hardeman, Haywood, and Dyer counties onsite and neighboring counties through telehealth. This position delivers care at mobile clinic sites and elsewhere as needed, including, but not limited to, performing physical examinations, diagnosing illness, taking vitals, prescribing medications, scheduling follow-up appointments, and providing healthcare training on various public health topics.

  1. Performs physical examinations of patients to evaluate health and diagnose illnesses
  2. Orders and interprets laboratory tests.
  3. Determines, plans, and initiates appropriate treatment, and adjusts treatment as necessary.
  4. Prescribe medications.
  5. Documents medical information of patients and maintains electronic medical records.
  6. Educates, instructs, and counsels patients and families on presenting health problems, treatment plans, and home care.
  7. Requests consultation or referrals with other health care providers as needed.
  8. Schedules follow-up appointments.
  9. Encourages and promotes preventive health care and positive health behaviors. 
  10. Drives the mobile clinic to the site of service and maintains the unit for service.
  11. Assists the research team in gathering data for grant reporting. 
  12. Performs other related duties as needed. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

EDUCATION: Master’s Degree in Nursing. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of clinical work experience. Must have a valid Driver’s License and personal vehicle insurance.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). Must meet all state requirements and obtain valid Prescriptive Authority including a DEA certificate. (COPY OF LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED)   

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong leadership skills, self-confidence, and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and other staff.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Exceptional active listening skills. 
  • Skilled in using Microsoft software including Outlook, Word, and Excel. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to coordinate, administer, and follow up on participant appointments.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings. May require occasional overnight travel.
