This is a senior level position. This role will be responsible for the design, development, and delivery of test automation, documentation, and performance engineering for the Actian cloud platform.  The Senior Director of Engineering Services will have responsibility for a team of tech writers, performance test engineers, and automation test engineers building API and UI tests with continuous integration to our build and deployment systems.  They will have the opportunity to mentor and develop an already outstanding engineering team, with a long-term focus on sustainability. Close collaboration with product development, product management, sales engineering, and release management teams will be essential for success.The person should have the ability to design/architect test plan/strategy, recommend technology stack, and write/review code and scripts. The person will participate in the product development process through software design review and analysis and the creation and implementation of complex test plans and test cases. Work requires exercising judgment within generally defined practices in selecting methods or obtaining solutions. Our ideal candidate is a self-starter with a get-it-done attitude who can demonstrate initiative across assignments.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop strategies and plans encompassing a suite of reliable automated test suites for functional, integration, and performance testing.
• Execute and monitor tests that verify implemented product requirements and validate the product functions as designed.
• Interacts with software leads and engineers, quality engineers, technical writers, and product management to understand customer needs, and then implements and tests high-value features and product functionality.
• Reviews and analyzes specifications and user documentation and provides feedback concerning their completeness and accuracy.
• Effectively handles complex issues/projects on a regular basis.
• Provides leadership on critical projects, and delegates implementation tasks as needed.

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
• 12 or more years of Engineering leadership experience in the software industry.
• 5 or more years of professional management experience in software engineering, test engineering, or QA.
• Knowledge of automation tools and methodologies.
• Experience working in an Agile environment.
• Development/scripting experience with one or more of the following: Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, etc.
• Must have experience working with SQL databases and writing SQL queries.
• Ability to exercise judgment within generally defined practices in selecting methods or obtaining solutions. 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to work with others as a team.
• Must have the ability and desire to learn new tools as required.
• Requires a proactive approach to problem solving.
