Security Clearance: Moderate Risk Background Investigation (MBI)

Schedule: This is a full-time position that typically works business hours Monday through Friday. Hours may vary depending on needs and may at times include travel, evenings, or weekends to meet specific project requirements or time zones.

Salary Range: $55,000-65,000

Job Summary: 

The Regional Program Specialist (RPS) serves as a front-line representative of the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), providing case support, outreach, and training to criminal justice and medicolegal professionals across a defined U.S. region. RPSs are responsible for facilitating data entry, verifying case accuracy, assisting with forensic coordination, and supporting stakeholders in the resolution of missing, unidentified, and unclaimed person cases. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Serve as the regional point of contact for law enforcement, medical examiners, coroners, and allied agencies. 
• Vet and validate new missing, unidentified, and unclaimed person cases submitted to NamUs. 
• Provide technical assistance and training on the NamUs system and forensic services. 
• Assist with forensic sample coordination (DNA, fingerprints, dental, anthropology) and submission. 
• Conduct in-region outreach and awareness events (e.g., Missing Persons Days, workshops). 
• Support stakeholder engagement and encourage professional registration in NamUs. 
• Monitor and enhance the completeness and quality of NamUs case records. 
• Assist with user vetting and permissions and maintain documentation for all assigned cases. 
• Compile program data, support performance reporting, and contribute to national NamUs goals. 
• Perform Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, forensic science, anthropology, or a related field. 
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in criminal justice, forensic, or case management setting. 
• Experience working with missing or unidentified person investigations is preferred. 
• Familiarity with local and national forensic services and data systems (e.g., CODIS, NGI). 
• Ability to travel within assigned regions for outreach, training, and stakeholder support. 
• Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement abilities. 
• Strong attention to detail and data accuracy in case documentation. 
• Proficiency in data entry systems and Microsoft Office applications. 
• Ability to work independently and manage a diverse caseload across multiple jurisdictions. 
• Comfort with public speaking, training delivery, and professional outreach. 

Clearance: 

• Moderate Risk Background Investigation (MBI) required
• Applicants selected will be subject to a government background investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Security Requirements/Background Investigation Requirements: 

• Must be a U.S Citizen
• Residency requirement - 3 consecutive years in the last 5 years. 
• Successfully passing a background investigation including drug screening.    

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

• Alternate Sitting or Standing at Will: The employee has the flexibility to choose between sitting or standing as needed.  
• Walking/Mobility: Must have mobility to attend meetings.  
• Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: 0% - 10% of the time. 
• Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: 0% - 10% of the time. 
• Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Must be able to write type (55 wpm), enter text or data into a computer or other machine by means of a traditional keyboard 100% of the time.
