Job Description

AECOM's West Region Strategic Communications Group is looking for a Public Relations Specialist II: Strategic Communications and Public Involvement Specialist to assist in public involvement and community engagement.

This will be a hybrid position including a combination of both remote and in-office scheduling. It can be based in Austin, TX; Houston, TX or Dallas, TX. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with Project Managers on strategies, best practices, and potential risks associated with engaging stakeholders for input on projects.
  • Communicating with clients, as needed.
  • Preparing documents and materials for use in communications.
  • Leading and/or assisting with implementation of stakeholder engagement and communication strategies, including meeting organization and facilitation.
  • Coordinating with other AECOM staff to prepare graphic displays and layouts for public information.
  • Engaging and informing stakeholders, communities, and residents on public or private projects in-person and/or virtually, or through written materials.
  • Exercising sound judgment when communicating with internal and/or external clients or customers.
  • Oversee logistics for public events and meetings as well as evaluating and selecting venues and vendors.
  • Develop presentations for meetings with various stakeholders within a client’s brand guidelines.
  • Provide acute attention to detail in the development and tracking of stakeholder communications.
  • Experience with or enthusiasm for learning new tools that enhance virtual collaboration and communication with stakeholders and the public for surveys, websites, social media, etc.
  • Drafting content for e-newsletters, stakeholder communication, fact sheet and exhibit content, and other materials as needed for QC review by the Project Manager.
  • Preparation and summary support for documentation of stakeholder meetings and public events.
  • Other tasks as directed by the client directly and/or Project Manager to support public involvement during the planning and construction phases for projects underway in the community.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Communications or a related field + 2 years of public relations and/or related communications experience or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in or supporting the transportation engineering/construction industry
  • Familiarity with the Adobe suite of tools and ability to assist in the preparation of graphics and layouts when needed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively work with various departments and levels within company.
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Offered rate of compensation  will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $55,500 - $96,000.
