Title: Data Engineer
 

The Team:
The Data Engineer will collaborate with the Data Architect within the Business Insights group to develop and maintain data pipelines and software solutions that enable advanced data analysis, reporting, and visualization for strategic decision-making.

The impact:

They will work closely with analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders to ensure data quality, integrity, and security while optimizing system performance. Additionally, the Data Engineer will prioritize AI readiness, ensuring that the data infrastructure supports current and future initiatives. By maintaining a focus on both performance and innovation, they will help drive the organization’s analytical and AI capabilities forward.

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to think logically, critically, and constructively about complex problems, clearly communicate analysis findings, and propose solutions that address user requirements.
  • Effectively communicate through progress reports, documentation, and formal presentations to both teams and management.
  • Design, develop, and maintain Streamlit applications, ensuring optimal performance, user experience, and scalability, while continuously improving functionality based on user feedback and evolving requirements.
  • Design, develop, and maintain data features within the data warehouse, ensuring data accuracy, performance optimization, and seamless integration with business processes and analytics tools.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for all developed solutions, ensuring clarity and accessibility, while adhering to best practices in version control using tools like Git to manage code changes and ensure seamless collaboration.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or Engineering, or equivalent work experience (5+ years preferred).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Hands-on experience developing applications and data workflows using Python, with a focus on leveraging Streamlit for building interactive web apps and data visualizations.
  • Proven experience in writing and developing complex SQL queries, including the use of Common Table Expressions (CTEs), Window Functions, OLAP Cubes, and other advanced SQL features.
  • Strong ability to gather functional and non-functional requirements, design business solutions to meet those requirements, and perform data analysis.

Location: Chicago (Hybrid) or Remote

Compensation/Benefits Information (US Applicants Only): S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $150,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan.  This role is eligible to receive additional S&P Global benefits.
