Mainframe Network Engineer

IT Concepts is looking for an experienced Mainframe Network Engineer to support our Server Refreshment Project at the Social Security Administration.

The Office of Hardware Engineering (OHE) is responsible for providing telecommunications services to all Social Security Administration (SSA) and state Disability Determination Service (DDS) offices. The SSA network infrastructure provides the critical foundation for all information exchanges within SSA’s very large enterprise network, and between SSA and other agencies and business partners including the public.

SSA’s baseline mainframe network environment supports over 100,000 devices in a Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) dual-carrier routed network and supports connectivity requirements for the Agency’s various client-server platforms. The environment concurrently consists of mainframe Computer Processor Units (CPUs) with numerous Logical PARtitions (LPARs) distributed among them for a total of 51,407 Million Instructions per Second (MIPS).The network infrastructure also consists of 56 Data Link Switch/Systems Network Architecture Switch (DLSW/SNAsw) consolidation routers, which are located in the Perimeter East Building (PEB) and the Second Support Center (SSC). This traffic flows between the two sites, with matching primary and secondary pairs for redundancy.

Requirements

Experience:

• Familiar of VTAM, TCP/IP, OSA, DVIPA, OMPROUTE, TN3270 and Enterprise Extender protocols, Switched Major Nodes, VTAM start up lists, etc. and their interdependencies within z/OS Communications Server
• Experience in security protocols: IPSEC, TLS, and AT-TLS
• Knowledge of Netview and Omegamon
• Familiar with JES3, TSO and CA-TPX
• Understanding IPv4/IPv6 network components in z/OS Communications Server

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performing engineering, configuration, customization, and problem determination of z/OS Communications Server, Enterprise Extender, and Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
• Willing to learn the mainframe networking hardware and software
• Excellent presentation, communication and customer interaction skills.
• Experience writing technical reports and white papers.
• Ability to document and describe Z/OS data communication and infrastructure design, including rationale for decisions and implication of decisions.
• Must be able to work well under pressure and willing to implement and verify changes Saturday nights / Sunday mornings
