Frontend Engineer Intern

The Rakuten Technology Service Division, creates powerful, customer-focused search, recommendation, data science, advertising, marketing, price, and inventory optimization solutions to a variety of businesses in commerce, fintech and mobile industries.   

AILab is a group focuses on incubating early-stage efforts to create new ways to advance products through exploration and the application of AI technologies. We work to build new solutions that have the potential to transform how users interact with Rakuten service. Our goal is to drive innovation by developing new products and capabilities that deliver significant impact over longer timeframes using AI.

We are looking to hire a motivated engineer to bring the power of our AI technology to the next generation search experience.   

As a Frontend Engineer Intern, you'll be working on the front end of our products and help to bridge UI best practices and production execution. 

Must Have: 

• Strong front-end development skills: HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript 

• Debugging and problem-solving skills 

• Experience with application frameworks such as React.js 

• Full-stack inclination with some backend experience with Node.js 

• Experience in an Agile product development environment 

Good to have: 

• Experience with CSS pre-processors: Sass and POSTCSS 

• Some experience with Figma or storybook 

• Some experience with Java
