Additional Job Details (if applicable)
The Shalhout Lab is recruiting a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow with expertise in small molecule drug discovery, molecular biology, biochemistry, and/or chemistry. Our group is developing innovative approaches to treat cancers by combining cutting-edge experimental biology with computational biology. We are seeking candidates with strong wet-lab skills who are excited to design, execute, and interpret experiments that drive therapeutic discovery.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Design and perform biophysical and biochemical assays, including protein purification, binding/interaction studies, cell reporter assays, and enzymatic assays. Purify and characterize proteins for structural and functional studies.
- Design and perform protein–protein and protein–ligand interactions (e.g., SPR, ITC, pull-downs, FRET).
- Conduct cell-based functional assays such as reporter assays, qPCR, and molecular characterization of signaling pathways.
- Carry out molecular biology techniques, including cloning, mutagenesis, and protein expression. Perform mutagenesis and structure–function studies to map binding sites and mechanisms of action.
- Support hit validation and lead optimization through iterative testing of small molecules.
- Collaborate with medicinal chemistry and computational teams to prioritize candidates and refine drug design.
- Basic understanding of biostatistics
- Analyze and interpret experimental data, present findings in lab meetings, publications, and conferences.
- Collaborate with team members on projects linking experimental data to translational cancer research
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
PhD in a relevant field (Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Cancer Biology, or related discipline) with a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications in areas such as drug discovery, small-molecule therapeutics, or translational oncology research.
