We are currently hiring a Multimedia Specialist located in San Diego, CA. The position will be dedicated to supporting multimedia content and projects on behalf of a public education institution. The role will be responsible for planning, developing, and managing multimedia content that supports the school district’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities. This position oversees the creation, production, and distribution of multimedia projects—including video, photography, graphics, and digital content—for internal and external audiences. The Multimedia Specialist ensures consistent brand identity across all platforms and works collaboratively with faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners to enhance student recruitment, retention, and community engagement.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop, plan, and manage multimedia projects including video production, photography, live-streaming, and digital presentations to support District communications, marketing, and outreach efforts.

  • Coordinate with staff, student workers, and contractors engaged in multimedia production and related activities.

  • Oversee pre-production, production, and post-production processes, including concept development, script writing, filming, editing, graphics, closed-captioning, and distribution.

  • Manage the District’s multimedia platforms, including digital asset libraries, video hosting sites, and content management systems.

  • Ensure multimedia content complies with accessibility, copyright, and equity standards, including ADA/Section 508 requirements.

  • Collaborate with Communications and Information Technology teams to develop strategies for emerging technologies and multimedia trends that improve student and community engagement.

  • Provide technical expertise and creative guidance on multimedia best practices to faculty, staff, and administrators.

  • Develop and monitor project budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure timely delivery of multimedia content.

  • Support multimedia needs for District and college events, including live-streaming, recording, and real-time technical troubleshooting.

  • Maintain and recommend multimedia equipment, software, and related technology.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills Required:

  • Multimedia production techniques, including video, photography, lighting, and editing.

  • Software applications such as Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator) or equivalent.

  • Web, social media, and digital distribution platforms.

  • Accessibility compliance requirements (e.g., Section 508, WCAG standards).

  • Project management principles and budget development.

  • Plan, organize, and manage multiple multimedia projects simultaneously.

  • Supervise and train assigned staff and student employees.

  • Collaborate effectively with diverse constituencies in a multicultural environment.

  • Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.

  • Stay current with emerging multimedia and digital communication trends.

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work efficiently. 

  • Ability to perform at high levels in a fast paced, ever-changing work environment. 

  • Highly organized.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in multimedia production, communications, film/television, graphic design, digital media, or a closely related field.

  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in multimedia production, including video, photography, and digital content management.

  • Experience in an educational or public sector environment is desirable.
