The Sydney School of Health Sciences is committed to educating people-centric physiotherapists through a 'scaffolded' degree structure that helps build clinical experience over time. Applied research in Physiotherapy at the University of Sydney is aimed at improving evidence-based treatment and prevention strategies to improve the lives of people with physical disorders or disabilities. Our staff support higher-degree research candidates to develop research expertise.

The school is in a period of exciting and significant investment by the Faculty of Medicine and Health. In order to deliver on the University’s ambitious strategic plan, the University is seeking academics who are passionate about improving health outcomes and/or health equity in the local, national and global communities, who are committed to teaching and research, and area team player ready to contribute across the broad field of academic activities. The position offers an opportunity to develop and contribute to research and teaching in physiotherapy as part of a multi-disciplinary team at the Faculty of Medicine and Health.

We are looking to onboard a Senior Lecturer (Level C) in a fixed-term compacity – the incumbent will be located in the Susan Wakil Health building on the Camperdown Campus.

The Senior Lecturer (Teaching and Research) will have a developing reputation as influential at a national level within the discipline or area of expertise. They will make a significant contribution to the education, research, and administrative endeavours of their school/faculty while building their reputation as an authoritative figure in the discipline.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate and engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences which meet the university’s expectations and standards for education, including supervising higher degree research students to successful completions
  • coordinate, develop and continually improve curricula, programs and resources to enhance teaching and learning outcomes
  • build and maintain a reputation for academic excellence through independent and innovative contributions to research and education, expanding knowledge and practice in the discipline
  • establish collaborations and partnerships to enhance the research profile and reputation of the university
  • coordinate activities of academic staff and provide training and mentorship to less experienced lecturers
  • provide leadership that has a significant impact on teaching, innovation, curriculum development, research training and supervision within the school or faculty
  • contribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled
  • understand and contribute to furthering the university and faculty/school strategic agenda
  • engage in community and alumni outreach, contribute expertise to public debates, and play a significant role in scholarly, research, or professional activities relevant to area of expertise.
  • establish partnerships, collaborations and engage in translational research for impactful outcomes in research, development, commercialisation, and policy improvement
  • undertake other duties and contribute to projects appropriate within the classification level as required.

About you

  • PhD in an academic field relevant to the discipline; clinical qualifications and experience in physiotherapy

  • significant experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in teaching within an established program and experience in teaching in a variety of settings

  • significant experience in educational design and practice, including implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives

  • demonstrated excellence in research or other scholarly activities relevant to the discipline

  • established network of academic, industry and professional partners and stakeholders

  • experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities

  • a developing knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the discipline and higher education sector.
