About the Role:

As the Technical Program Manager (TPM) for the Spacecraft Security Team at Planet, you drive security projects, some large and complex, crossing many teams and organizational boundaries. You work closely with team leads outside of the Spacecraft Security Team to develop and manage end to end program plans and support requirement reviews with internal customers.

This includes establishing and managing internal processes, project schedules, metrics, identifying risks, and clearly communicating them to project stakeholders. You're equally at home explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers.

Beside the project management side, the position has an individual technical contributor side that can be adjusted based on the skillset and interests of the candidate. Some technical familiarity with embedded software, and experience with (or at least interest) in security is preferred. Projects are mostly part of larger engineering satellite development.

Impact You’ll Own:

  • Partner with key program stakeholders (Security Team itself, Product Manager, Engineering teams, and others) to scope and execute across various technical projects
  • Develop project schedules and track performance across all phases of security project development and implementation
  • Work directly with multiple engineering teams and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure productivity and progress on multiple concurrent projects
  • As a technical individual contributor, based on experience, develop software tools/utilities, and participate in security design and code reviews

What You Bring:

  • 5+ years of experience in an engineering project management role for the development of software or hardware systems in a cross-functional, cross-organizational context
  • 5+ years of experience in C, C++, or Python
  • 5+ experience with embedded systems (hands-on HW/SW design experience)
  • Experience applying agile software development practices
  • Outstanding communication and facilitation skills
  • BA/BS in a technically relevant field

What Makes You Stand Out:

  • Experience with security
  • Experience with spacecraft systems

Benefits While Working at Planet:

  • Comprehensive Health Plan
  • Wellness program and onsite massages in specific offices
  • Flexible Time Off
  • Recognition Programs
  • Commuter Benefits
  • Learning and Tuition Reimbursement
  • Parental Leave
  • Offsites and Happy Hours
  • Volunteering Benefits

Compensation:

The US base salary range for this full-time position at the commencement of employment is $148,800 - $186,000.  Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives (bonus and equity).
