Position Summary
This is a part-time position that assures the continuation of healthy nutrition for children enrolled in the Early Head Start and Head Start Programs. The person fulfilling this job is expected to have knowledge and skill in planning menus, conducting nutrition assessment, developing individual nutrition plans, communication information regarding nutrition, and overseeing food service operation. This person works under the supervision of the Early Head Start/Head Start Director.
Requirements and Duties:
- Provide nutrition counseling to the parents of all children in the Early Head Start and Head Start Program with any of the following: overweight, short for age and underweight. Body Mass Index will be used as the guide to determine weight status of children.
- Provide nutrition counseling to parents of all children in the Early Head Start and Head Start Program with Lead levels of 5 or higher or digestive complications.
- Provide nutrition counseling to the parents of all children in the Detroit Early Head Start and Head Start Programs with Hematocrit levels below 34 % and/or hemoglobin of below 11
- Provide nutrition counseling to pregnant women in the Early Head Start Program as needed to assist with their ability to eat, if impacted by the pregnancy, and healthy eating during pregnancy.
- Make menu adjustments and other requirements needed to accommodate medically based diets, nutrient supplements or meal replacement formulas prescribed by the doctor
Qualifications
Education
- Registered Dietitian (preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Health Administration, Health Care Management or a related field
- Associates in health field, LPN or Medical Assistant.
Experience
- Early Head Start / Head Start experience preferred
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in basic nursing or health principals, including nutrition.
- Knowledge of health problems of children with moderate to significant disabilities and behaviors.
