Director/senior VP in the Hydrocarbons & New Energies team – Central role to finance the Energy transition

The Hydrocarbons & New Energies team within the Sector Coverage Energy offers an exciting position in Amsterdam for an ambitious professional who enjoys working in an international and diverse environment and who is keen to drive the energy transition through financial solutions.

The Energy sector team is one of the global specialist sector coverage teams and sits at the heart of ING Wholesale Banking. We provide banking services including complex financial solutions to Energy clients in the EMEA region, the Americas and in Asia-Pacific. From Amsterdam you will cover the Netherlands, UK and Scandinavian countries and occasionally be involved with clients and/or transactions in the Middle East.

The Hydrocarbons & New Energies team covers the full spectrum of exploration and production companies to oil-gas infrastructure space, refineries, base chemical producers and related service providers. Although the sector is currently still dominated by fossil hydrocarbons as feedstock for fuels and materials, client are developing low-carbon activities into New Energy technologies and solutions to diversify away from the traditional oil & gas based business models. Changing client strategies requires a similar change from ING to remain relevant. We see this as a great opportunity that lies ahead of us. We want to support our clients that recognize the need to change their business model into sustainable solutions such as hydrogen and hydrogen compounds, e-fuels and biofuels. Carbon Capture Solutions and Waste-to-X projects are other important areas.

This is fully in line with our strategy in which we have committed to phase out financing oil & gas exploration and production activities by 2040.

As a Director/senior VP, you will play a key role in (i) managing our multi-product relationships with international clients in this fast changing dynamic sector, (ii) originating, structuring and executing financial solutions whilst (iii) actively increasing ING’s commitment into New Energies in line with ING’s strategy.

Job description:

You will be a member of multiple deal teams involved in transactions which have a large impact on our clients. You work closely together with team members in Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt and other locations, and with various product specialists across ING. In all your activities you will strive to meet client needs in the best way and beyond. As a Director/senior VP in the Hydrocarbons & New Energies team your activities will be diverse, but your main tasks consist of:

• Building client relations and maintaining continuous dialogue with industry leaders and sector participants.
• Coordinating sale and delivery of ING’s product suite trough active contacts with other departments/disciplines within ING such as Sustainable Finance, Financial Markets, Energy Project Advisory, Capital Structuring & Advisory, Debt Capital Markets, Transaction Services, Corporate Finance, and Loan Capital Markets.
• Active deal generation; proactively originate new (syndicated) transactions supported by presentations pitch books and sector analyses.
• Lead the structuring and negotiating of transactions in which ING acts as coordinator/ arranger with support of the team.
• Negotiation of transaction documentation with our clients.
• Safeguarding timely transaction delivery and high-quality transaction execution including the coordination with Risk Management.
• Maintain oversight and/or taking responsibility for complex financial models, credit analyses, rating profiles and peer group analysis and managing credit applications.
• Assessing and reviewing due diligence on clients.
• Guiding, training and supervising Associates and Analysts in a deal team setting.
• Monitoring portfolio management activities such as processing of credit reviews, waivers and amendments.
• Keeping up to speed with latest sector developments, including but not limited to new energy technologies, focussed on Hydrogen / Hydrogen compounds like ammonia, Waste to Energy / Materials as well as Carbon Capture and Storage.
