The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) at the University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science invites applications for one Senior Research Associate II (SRA II) position at the NOAA Fisheries Southeast Fisheries Science Center, Marine Mammal and Turtle Division located in Crowley, Louisiana.

Candidates for this position must have: 1) a Master’s degree or higher in marine biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related field, and at least 1 year of relevant work-related experience with evidence of tangible contributions to the dissemination of new research information ; (2) bioinformatics experience including managing, analyzing, and archiving large genomic data sets; (3) the ability and desire to work as part of a collaborative team; (4) demonstrated technical writing ability; and (5) demonstrated ability to work independently to complete complex tasks. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting laboratory work and genomic analyses supporting the Marine Mammal Program at the Crowley laboratory. Duties will include analyzing previously collected mitochondrial, microsatellite, and Restriction-site associated DNA sequence (RAD-seq) data of multiple cetacean species. Specifically, analyses will be focused on genetic stock assignment and developing a Genotyping-in-Thousands by sequencing (GT-seq) panel for bottlenose dolphins, and population structure analysis of short-finned pilot whales. The SRA II will also be responsible for performing DNA extractions, PCR, DNA sequencing, and microsatellite genotyping on cetacean species. Additional duties include database entry, archiving, and management of all genomic data, metadata and pipelines, and the preparation of reports and/or peer-reviewed manuscripts.
