Role description:
Arcadis is currently searching for a Water/Wastewater Engineer with 5 or more years of experience to join our Water Business Line team in Minneapolis, MN.
Our team helps clients achieve business objectives by creating and implementing innovative and effective solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure assets and this is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated engineer to join our team locally with support from one of the best-qualified municipal consulting firms in the country.
The Water/Wastewater Engineer will utilize their expertise and technical knowledge of Water / Wastewater evaluations, design & construction to serve as a Project Manager and/or project engineer on local projects, regional projects and the potential for national projects. This is a ‘hands-on’ role with an expectation of leading projects, managing and/or mentoring staff, and supporting marketing and business development activities with senior staff.
Role accountabilities:
The role involves serving as a Project Manager and/or team leader who applies technical expertise to develop municipal water and wastewater projects, ensuring their successful execution and delivery while enhancing the team's overall capabilities. Responsibilities include leading projects through planning, design, and construction phases for water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, stormwater systems, and distribution or collection systems. The role requires developing project scopes, budgets, and schedules, ensuring tasks and projects are completed on time and within budget. Active participation in industry conferences and associations at local, state, and national levels is expected, including involvement in committee memberships, presentations, or leadership roles. The position supports marketing and business development efforts within the water and wastewater market in the region, collaborating with senior staff to manage clients and proposals. Coordination with other disciplines for project execution is essential, as is the development of small to large planning and design projects from inception to completion. Responsibilities include preparing complete construction packages, encompassing all deliverables necessary for the engineering, procurement, and construction of water and wastewater systems for clients. The role involves performing detailed engineering calculations and analyses, utilizing design software to address complex issues, with drafting software knowledge being advantageous though not required. Additionally, the position supervises and mentors junior-level engineers and design or drafting technical staff while ensuring adherence to Arcadis’ standards and specifications for municipal water and wastewater design and construction projects.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or a related field of study.
- 5 or more years of experience.

- Staff development and supervision skills; including mentoring junior level staff.
- Comprehensive knowledge of drinking water treatment design, including tools, techniques and methodologies used to achieve successful outcomes.
- Client relationship skills; including preparation and development of proposals and client management experience with a successful record of accomplishment, delivering a variety of projects that meet or exceed client expectations.
- Experience with planning, design and construction projects including water, wastewater and/or stormwater project and also working with new and/or existing treatment plants, pump stations and/or conveyance systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in civil or environmental engineering or an MBA.
