Wheeling University’s Football Program is looking for a full time Director of Football Operations/ Defensive Line, Assistant Coach position. This position will assist the Head Football Coach with the management of our competitive NCAA Division II football program. Will include assisting with conditioning, practices, recruiting, travel arrangements and overall day to day management of the University’s football program.

Responsibilities:


Train and prepare student-athletes for collegiate competition, including development in speed, strength, conditioning, skill execution, and play development.
Foster a positive, disciplined team culture that promotes growth, accountability, and competitive excellence.
Identify and develop individual athlete potential, providing constructive feedback and performance improvement strategies.
Encourage student-athletes to build strengths, expand skills, and perform to the best of their abilities regardless of experience or performance level.
Model professionalism, strong work ethics, sportsmanship, and commitment to continuous improvement.
Maintain regular office hours and be accessible to student-athletes for support and mentoring.
Monitor academic progress in collaboration with the Faculty Academic Representative, Academic Coordinator, and Registrar.
Establish and coordinate study halls, mentoring, and tutoring resources to support academic success.
Ensure student-athletes meet NCAA and conference eligibility requirements and that compliance documentation is accurate and timely.
Plan, organize, and lead all defensive practices, meetings, and game-day coaching activities.
Develop defensive game plans, scouting reports, and film analysis for each contest.
Create and maintain the defensive playbook and teaching progression.
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate defensive coaching staff, including position coaches.
Schedule and manage film sessions and defensive unit meetings.
Perform duties with minimal supervision while effectively prioritizing responsibilities.
Communicate clearly and professionally with student-athletes, coaching staff, and university personnel.
Support and represent the University’s mission, vision, and values in all interactions.
Required to ensure NCAA, conference and University policies and mandated requirements are correctly interpreted and met and documentation is maintained per policies and procedures; maintain qualifications and certification(s) and complete required annual training.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree is preferred.
Three years of football coaching experience at high school, collegiate or professional level. Experience as a head coach and player is preferred.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear and use hands to handle and feel objects; lift and / or move up to 50lbs; reach with hands and arms, climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; occasionally lift and / or move up to 100lbs; have vision abilities that include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Have a valid driver's license.
Must be able to travel, and work nights/weekends based on football schedule.
Must be able to obtain and maintain certifications such as NCAA Rules Compliance Certification, First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
