Job Summary: 

The CMM Programmer is responsible for creating, maintaining, and optimizing coordinate measuring machine (CMM) programs to support inspection of high-precision aerospace and defense components. This role requires expertise in GD&T, proficiency in Zone 3 programming for OGP CMMs, and a strong understanding of metrology principles to ensure compliance with strict quality and customer requirements. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Develop, test, and validate CMM programs using Zone 3 programming language for OGP CMM systems. 

  • Perform dimensional inspections of aerospace and defense parts to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, and customer specifications. 

  • Analyze inspection results, prepare detailed reports, and communicate findings to Quality and Production teams. 

  • Collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing to resolve dimensional and quality issues. 

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and update CMM programs to improve efficiency and accuracy. 

  • Assist in developing and maintaining inspection plans, procedures, and best practices. 

  • Ensure all inspection and programming work adheres to AS9100 and customer quality standards. 

  • Provide training and guidance to Quality Inspectors and other staff on CMM operation and interpretation of results. 

  • Support calibration and preventive maintenance activities for CMM equipment. 

 

Required Skills/Abilities:  

  • Proficiency in Zone 3 programming for OGP CMMs. Experience with other CMM software platforms (e.g., PC-DMIS, Calypso, MODUS) is a plus. 

  • Strong knowledge of GD&T principles and ASME Y14.5 standards. 

  • Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, and other aerospace quality standards. 

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) for reporting and documentation. 

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills. 

 

Education and Experience: 

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience programming and operating CMMs in a manufacturing environment (aerospace/defense preferred). 

  • Hands-on experience interpreting aerospace/defense engineering drawings and specifications. 

  • Knowledge of additional precision measurement tools and optical measuring equipment. 

 

Physical Requirements: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, feel/reach with hands/arms, talk and hear. 

  

The employee frequently is required to sit and walk. The employee is occasionally required to bend and stop, push and pull, reach above shoulder level, kneel, squat, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job to include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 

  

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
