April 7, 2025 at 11:59 PMThis job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy in the Temporary Research Positions (Employee Group)The Department of History seeks a student research assistant to coordinate and implement its undergraduate Alumni Connections Project. The project will involve gathering data, following up with alumni, and developing plans for future communication and networking with alumni. The RA will work with faculty and staff in the Department as well as Faculty of Humanities outreach staff and possibly Brock Alumni Relations staff.
Duties and responsibilities
- Conduct research, using LinkedIn and other online resources as well as graduation lists, to locate undergraduate History alumni
- Develop an internal database using information collected and already available
- Follow up (within parameters established by the Alumni Relations office) with alumni to gather career data, testimonials, preferred methods of communication with the History Department, etc.
- Make recommendations for maintaining communication with alumni and develop plans as needed, e.g., internal newsletter, networking events, etc.
Qualifications, skills, and abilities
- Currently enrolled in a 4th-year Honours Brock bachelors degree program, with a minimum 80 overall average and three completed years of study
- Excellent skills in conducting Internet-based research
- Familiarity with LinkedIn
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a strong commitment to professionalism in communication
- Extremely well organized, with strong attention to detail and follow-up
- Experience working with Excel spreadsheets and creating databases
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of personal data as needed
Note: This position may involve working both on campus and remotely. For remote work, the successful applicant must have access to a computer and reliable Internet service.
Hours and Compensation
The position is a short-term contract totaling 36 hours of work. Hours are flexible, to be arranged with the supervisor. Work is to be conducted in April and May 2025. (Specific dates and timeline may vary/be negotiable.) Compensation is $16.70 per hour plus 14% (vacation pay and statutory benefits).
The employee will submit hours on a timesheet via the Brock University Workday system.
Compensation is based on the Brock University Research Assistant Schedule, which aligns with employee qualifications and minimum education required for the role.
