About the team

The Data Platform Products mission is to efficiently organize all data within Stripe, ensuring its trustworthiness, reliability, discoverability, searchability, accuracy, accessibility, usefulness, and visual appeal. Our goal is to create compelling experiences and processes to deliver the world’s best GPTN.  We will do this by creating great internal and customer facing tooling to generate insights, trust, cost savings, and revenue.

The Notebooks team within the Data Platform Products organization built a fully integrated notebook platform that has significantly accelerated machine learning practices at Stripe’s. The team is responsible for building and maintaining the tools and services needed to ensure a smooth path from the first line of code to a fully deployed production ML model. Notebooks are an essential tool for Machine Learning and Data Science engineers as they explore data, iterate on model experimentation, do data preparations for modeling, generate insights and more. The success of the team’s work is measured primarily by user satisfaction and augmented with user adoption and retention as well as  infrastructure efficiency metrics. 

 

What you’ll do

As an infrastructure engineer on the Notebooks team, you will be part of a team that is building home grown notebooking infrastructure as well integrating with well known data platforms that enhance our overall notebook platform. Your work will directly support Stripes in creating and deploying novel ML models that aid in the reduction of fraud for Stripe and our merchants. The team owns the infrastructure and solutions that enable ML engineers to experiment with the latest LLM models in an interactive notebook environment in order to develop merchant facing data products. You will also build a great customer experience for internal Stripe teams that build on your software to power all of our products, globally and at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain distributed cloud infrastructure and platform services
  • Scope, design and implementation of tools and libraries that serve as the interface to data infrastructure for all of Stripe
  • Work on scaling, automation, reliability and observability of infrastructure services
  • Operate your service, debug issues, and support customers
  • Work with ML Engineers and other data users across the company to anticipate user needs and ensure we meet them
  • Participate in roadmap planning and prioritization
  • Mentor and grow the next generation of technical leaders at Stripe

Minimum requirements

  • 2+ years of professional experience in a infrastructure development role
  • Experience using one of the major cloud providers
  • A strong engineering background in building platform services and/or distributed systems at scale
  • Takes a users-first approach to every aspect of their work
  • Has demonstrated the ability to plan and drive large projects involving multiple stakeholders across an organization
  • Experience with operational excellence and a deep understanding of metrics, alarms, dashboards and debugging distributed systems
  • Experience handling critical incidents for production systems

 

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience working with Notebook platforms like SageMaker, Jupiter Notebooks or Databricks notebooks
  • Has a strong track record of hands-on leadership in data engineering, developer productivity, or developer tools
  • Experience  writing high quality code in Python, Java, or/and Scala
  • Experience on popular cloud technologies - AWS/Azure/GCP/Oracle Cloud
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and configuration tools such as Terraform
  • Experience with Linux OS
