Formosa Plastics is a privately held company headquartered in Livingston, New Jersey. Our core business, producing plastic resins and petrochemicals, takes place at three wholly-owned chemical manufacturing subsidiaries located in Delaware City, Delaware, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Point Comfort, Texas.
I. POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Operations Process Safety Management (PSM) Engineer will facilitate the implementation of Process Safety Management Programs to ensure compliance with all State, Federal, and Corporate regulations, procedures, and policies. The PSM Engineer will provide expert technical and regulatory support to the assigned site on Process Hazard Analysis, LOPA, Quantitative Risk Assessments, MOC, engineering evaluations/ gap assessments and development of related risk reduction recommendations, as well as all other PSM/RMP compliance activities. By fostering site-wide consistency and building strong PSM awareness, the Operations PSM Engineer is essential to maintaining and strengthening the organization’s operational safety culture.
II. MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
Process Safety Management / Risk Management Program Compliance - Facilitate implementation of Process Safety and Risk Management programs that provide methods for managing/reducing process safety related risks to the organization, while achieving compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company safety, health, and security programs/ practices in-line with corporate and site goals/ objectives.
Leadership and Development - Coach and lead individual team members and groups for continued development of Process Safety Competency throughout the organization.
Initiate Action and Function as the Critical Liaison - Determine maintenance, operations, and other support needs through interaction and provide regulatory interpretation/ support to meet corporate objective/goals. Facilitate regulatory compliance through implementation of training, policies/ procedures, quantitative Hazard and/ or Risk Analysis as applicable, and provide execution, assistance for special projects as needed.
Collaboration and Team Work - Utilize internal and external resources to foster teamwork, develop workable solutions, and optimize/positively impact departmental and company goals and results, in-line with achieving regulatory compliance.
Environmental Stewardship - Execute assigned responsibilities, activities, and tasks in a manner protective of the environment so as to prevent/minimize environmental releases/emissions/issues, in-line with corporate and site goals/objectives and regulatory requirements.
THM - Promote cleanliness and order through the implementation of the Total House Keeping Maintenance program. Emphasize Nothing Touch Ground program and No Visual Pollution program. Maintain the plant in like new condition.
III. QUALIFICATIONS
• Education
◦ Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering required; Master’s Degree or Licensed Professional Engineer preferred.
• Previous Related Experience Required
◦ A minimum five (5) years of experience in petrochemical facility including implementation of OSHA’s Process Safety Management, or Process Safety Professional certification, with strong background in hazard analysis studies (PHA/ LOPA), incident investigations, and Management of Change as well as other elements of PSM/RMP. Operations experience is a plus.
