Qualifications
A. Education
1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; earned baccalaureate degree in nursing.
2. Graduate of an accredited program of nurse anesthesia.
3. Holds a minimum of a doctorate degree.
4. Has a minimum of two years of experience as a nurse anesthetist.
5. Has current and appropriate preparation in administration, instruction; and the educational process.
B. Expertise
1. Maintains current and valid District of Columbia licensure as a professional registered nurse and nurse anesthetist.
2. Meets requirements and maintains recertification by the National Board of Certification & Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists.
3. Demonstrates ability to instruct and provide students with knowledge of principles and theory of anesthesia, equipment and techniques.
4. Remains current in theories and methods of instruction by:
a. Current membership in the AANA;
b. Review of current anesthesia literature;
c. Attendance at state, local and national meetings; Maintaining professional clinical privileges and practice of anesthesia
Core Responsibilities of Assistant Professors in the DNAP Program
1. Teaching Responsibilities
a. Provides lectures in multiple DNAP courses and teaches in the simulation and cadaver labs. These lectures and labs are assigned in the semester planning meetings by the Program Director with input from the course coordinators and the DNAP faculty team.
b. Provides test bank questions related to lecture material for both oral and written examinations.
c. Serve as course coordinator of various DNAP courses as assigned by Program Director (usually 1-2 courses per semester).
i. Coordinate the course schedule and develop/manage the Canvas course site.
ii. Prepare and administer all course examinations after verification that all lecturers have updated question banks.
iii. Notifies the Program Director and Assistant Program Director with any student academic concerns in a timely manner.
iv. Issues mid-semester advisories for students achieving less than an 80% in course work.
d. Grades oral exams each semester for each DNAP course as scheduled by the course coordinator.
e. Holds regular office hours.
f. Document all tutoring activities (including exam reviews, office hours, and review sessions) on the tutor log in Box.
2. Administrative Responsibilities
a. Participates in activities directed at maintaining program accreditation under the direction of the Program Director.
b. Follow all University & SON’ and program policies/guidelines –follows established standards.
3. Meetings and Events
a. Attends SON, DNAP and committee meetings.
b. Participates in all DNAP student, program, and recruitment events (e.g. open houses, graduation activities, etc.).
c. Participates in student interviews and admissions selection committee meetings.
d. Attends the AANA’s Assembly of Didactic and Clinical Educators and/or Annual Congress yearly as the DNAP budget permits.
4. Scholarly activities
a. Publishes a minimum of one peer-reviewed manuscript each year.
b. Mentors DNAP Scholarly Projects as first or second reader as assigned by the Program and Research Directors.
Core Responsibilities of the DNAP Program Clinical Director
1. Clinical Site Liaison – Primary, enrichment, and optional sites; has regular communication with site coordinators.
2. Affiliation Agreements – Yearly review and as-needed update of current agreements; secures additional sites and agreements when identified as necessary by program faculty.
3. Site Evaluations – Performs site visits at a minimum on an annual basis and documents visit findings; coordinates the collation and analysis of site evaluation forms; reports analysis at DNAP Faculty meetings, and disseminates information to individual sites regularly.
4. Affiliation Information– maintains current comprehensive documentation related to all sites.
5. Clinical Faculty – coordinates the analysis of site faculty evaluations; databases maintained; reports analysis at DNAP Faculty meetings; available to faculty to resolve clinical student issues (or appointee if unavailable); assures current licenses and certification of clinical faculty.
6. Student Contact – Available to clinical students; appoints DNAP faculty member in times of unavailability – informs students and Director/Assistant.
7. Clinical Orientation – Schedules and develops program just prior to semester 3 (oftentimes in May), before entering clinical; provides student
