Job purpose
This position will report to the Manager, Tax Compliance & Reporting and will assist in the completion of PHINIA’s global tax provision and US domestic tax compliance obligations.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and review quarterly and annual tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740.
- Prepare and analyze income tax disclosures, including current and deferred tax assets and liabilities, effective tax rate reconciliation, and uncertain tax positions.
- Liaison with outside service provider in the preparation and review of US federal and state income tax returns, including (a) coordinating with business units to receive financial information required for tax return preparation; (b) responding to inquiries from business units; (c) preparing complex M-1 adjustments and apportionment schedules as needed and (d) researching any issues that arise.
- Calculate and prepare quarterly estimated federal and state income tax payments.
- Assist with audits involving federal and state income tax returns.
- Support US business units with indirect taxes (sales and use taxes, property taxes) and coordinate with external resources as needed.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to Non-US team members to ensure understanding and compliance with US GAAP provisions and reporting standards.
- Lead or participate in special projects related to tax provision and compliance.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of tax provision and compliance activities.
- Ensure compliance with SOX 404 requirements related to tax reporting and disclosures.
What we’re looking for
- Minimum of 4+ years of US federal and state tax experience at a Big 4 or large regional public accounting firm and/or within an industry role.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; CPA and/or MST preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of US federal and key state tax rules, as well as ASC 740.
- Working knowledge of US international and non-US tax rules is desired.
- Must possess intermediate to advanced computer skills or demonstrate the ability to quickly learn new software (e.g., OneStream, BNA Research, OneSource Tax Provision, Excel, Word, Power BI).
