The Senior Principal Project Manager will report to the Project Planning Division Manager within the Project Planning and Delivery Directorate (PPD).  This position will have key responsibilities to plan and manage large sized infrastructure projects ($20-50M Total Project Cost) through the project lifecycle; communicate technically; and translate project requirements into project execution documents.  The selected candidate will demonstrate on-time and on-cost project delivery; strong communication and leadership skills; and be able to work in a dynamic environment. The position will be located at the Los Alamos Operations Office in Los Alamos, NM.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage large projects ($20-50M TPC) construction and modification of facilities across the Nevada National Security Site as well as related support infrastructure systems (civil site prep, water, sewer, communication, and electrical power). Responsible for all aspects of the project over the entire lifecycle (initiation, planning, executing, monitoring & controlling, and closing).
  • Manage projects in accordance with established company procedures that control project management including project management best practices and processes, planning, phase gate reviews, estimating, schedule development, work authorization, monitoring project performance, controlling the project baseline, EVMS reporting, and change control.
  • Lead Integrated Project Teams (IPTs) to support early-stage program development, including idea generation, scope definition, planning, programming, and stakeholder alignment to meet funding targets and complete projects on time and on budget.
  • Provide direction, thinking, and long-term strategic planning to management for the NNSS water system by providing recommendations on asset management, associated plans, and optimizing scope decision Establish and actively monitor customer satisfaction.
  • Work in close collaboration with NNSS Area Planning and fellow Asset Program Managers for Power, Roads, and Telecommunications.
  • Support functional requirements development, ensuring stakeholder needs are captured and translated into actionable design criteria to meet intended function.
  • Interface regularly with environmental and compliance teams to ensure alignment with broader campus and site development goals.
  • Coordinate across multi-disciplinary teams to establish project feasibility and readiness for transition to execution. 
  • Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and internal stakeholders to drive project objectives.
  • Support review of project design documents to ensure alignment with program goals, regulatory codes, and mission needs.
  • Present project updates to leadership and client stakeholders.
  • Actively monitor customer satisfaction and monthly budget performance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent training and experience and at least 12 years’ related professional experience, which included at least 8 years’ as a designated Project Manager. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Previous experience with National Nuclear Security Agency (NNSA) nuclear facility projects and requirements are highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of applicable energy and water codes and regulations, particularly on federal compliance involving state regulation.
