About the role
The Manager of Software has a visible leadership role in the company and is accountable for managing and coordinating resources to deliver software products. This position involves cross functional communication and collaboration, mentoring, and growing individuals and teams to become highly effective at meeting requirements, goals, and delivering quality, shippable products.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Communicate and collaborate with Program Management, Product Strategy, Hardware, Systems, other managers, and other stakeholders to understand and align with the product vision, requirements, and functionality.
- Must be a “team-player” with the ability to work in a collaborative environment, both within the Software team and across team boundaries.
- Provide leadership in the planning, development and maintenance of high-quality software products.
- Understand and support the product and software development processes.
- Facilitate, guide and mentor the team on developing and evolving software architecture, design, and development.
- Facilitate discussion and conflict resolution, re-enforce professional behavior, expectations, and group values.
- Identify and remove impediments and distractions.
- Promote, maintain, and improve team standards, tools, and best practices.
- Ensure the organization structure is effectively aligned with team goals, the team has the appropriate resources available to effectively deliver high-quality products in a timely manner and recommend/help implement changes when necessary.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience in a related field.
- 7+ years of experience with software design, development, release, and delivery.
- 5+ years of experience with distributed, networked, or complex software.
- 3+ years of experience working in a Software Management role, with a record of successful software delivery.
- 3+ years of experience with UNIX, Linux and/or an embedded operating system.
- Strong understanding of the Software development cycle.
- Basic knowledge of budgetary processes.
- Willingness to dive into software environments and technical issues.
- Experience in the In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) industry would be advantageous.
The starting pay range for this position is $119,000 to $159,000, however, base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location.
