Caregivers on our H80 Internal Medicine unit provide care to a wide variety of patients, with medical diagnoses including congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, pneumonia, diabetes, sepsis, gastrointestinal bleed, myocardial infarction and angina. Caregivers are supported by clinical instructors and clinical nurse specialists who provide ongoing education and expertise. Age-specific and cardiac dysthythmia/EKG interpretation training is integrated into annual staff competency requirements.
A caregiver in this position works day/evening/night/weekend| various shifts.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide direct nursing care.
Implement and monitor patient care plans.
Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.
Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (Diploma, ADN, BSN program)
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
One year of current Acute Care RN experience OR military RN experience
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Physical Requirements:
- Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
- Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
