About the role

Overview

Utah State University is looking for a Coach responsible for the sprinters and hurdlers student-athletes.

 

The primary responsibilities below are intended to describe the general content of and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties.  This position works directly with the Head Track and Field, Cross Country coach and Director.  Responsible for practice scheduling, creating and implementing training plans, assisting student- athletes to grow as athletes and people, maintaining compliance, working with athletic department development staff, recruiting, and other assigned duties. This position will also act as a liaison within other units of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Utah State, as well as with the Cache Valley and Utah State University communities.  Will engage in activities outside of the Track & Field Program.

Responsibilities

Administration

1. Compliance

    • Attend compliance meetings
    • Stay knowledgeable and up to date on NCAA rules
    • Ensure compliance with NCAA rules
    • Complete all University trainings timely

2.  Development

    • Work with development staff to enhance departmental/program fundraising effort
    • Develop relationships with current and potential donors

3. Athletic Department Relationships

    • Athletic Department relationships
    • Work with athletic departments personnel on all needed matters
    • Work with strength and conditioning staff on weight training plans
    • Communicate with athletic training staff and follow recommendations of medical staff
    • Special projects and requests

Recruiting

1.  Accountable for recruitment of sprinters and hurdlers.

    • Accountable for filing all NCAA and University paperwork for official and unofficial recruiting visit
    • Develop recruiting plan to maximize team goals in the Mountain West Conference and NCAA
    • Find and contact potential student-athletes
    • Communicate with head coach and staff about recruiting efforts
    • Plan and coordinate visits approved by the head coach
    • Ensure all incoming student-athletes meet eligibility requirements and follow University procedures for clearance to participate

Coaching

1.  Create and implement training plans for sprints and hurdles group

    • Create and implement strength training plans in conjunction with strength and conditioning staff
    • Conduct practices in accordance with NCAA rules and University policies
    • Accountable for student-athlete athletic performance with team goals
    • Hold student-athletes accountable to team rules and expectations
    • Build and maintain positive relationships with student-athletes

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Candidate should have successful recruiting experience and have knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Must pass the NCAA recruiting test upon hiring or have already passed it for the upcoming year
  • Candidate must possess strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as an assistant collegiate coach

Indoors, in an office space, event space, or public space are protected from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. Outdoors, incumbents may not be protected from weather conditions and may be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold.
