About the role

Description

The Tufts Institute for Global Obesity Research (TIGOR) announces a fellowship for research on any aspect of obesity relating to the health of underrepresented groups.

Obesity continues to disproportionately affect certain racial and ethnic groups—particularly Black Americans and Hispanics/Latinos—and individuals with low socioeconomic positions. Research directed towards supporting improvements in obesity prevention and treatment is urgently needed. Tufts University has launched a cross-university institute, TIGOR, to advance obesity science for reducing the prevalence of obesity in national and international populations. This new fellowship will focus on clinical, translational, policy, or community-based research addressing obesity in underrepresented groups and issues of obesity-related disparities and inequities. A strong mentoring committee consisting of obesity experts in intervention science, epidemiology, population health, and the biology of obesity will mentor the chosen candidate in their specialization area, providing opportunities for first author publications and collaborations. Major emphasis will be placed on gaining skills for a successful independent research career, including leading original analyses and manuscripts, and other career development activities. Although the scholar will be appointed within the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, they may affiliate with any of Tufts schools, including Arts & Sciences, Engineering, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, and the Fletcher School. This fellowship is open to postdoctoral scholars, and MD fellows.

Tufts University is an equal opportunity employer and a major emphasis will be placed on support for personal and professional growth, including leadership training, time to attend workshops and seminars, activities to develop research skills, and tutorials for writing. A competitive salary and benefits in this interdisciplinary environment are offered. The position is for a one-year period initially with renewal for an additional year conditional on performance. Position available starting in mid 2021.

The chosen fellow will be a member of a vibrant Tufts University and Tufts Medical Center community. Candidates from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
