Parke County REMC is a nonprofit and member-owned electric cooperative. Incorporated in 1937 by a group of rural citizens, it exists today to distribute quality service and electricity to the members in portions of six counties: Parke, Putnam, Clay, Vigo, Montgomery and Fountain.
Parke County Rural Electric Membership Corporation (REMC), is located on the south side of the square in Rockville, Indiana. As your utility, we serve over 9,000 residential, commercial, and industrial members and are governed by a board of seven member-elected directors who oversee the general business affairs of the cooperative. Job Description
Works closely with the Electrical Engineer and performs technical work in the field. Programs breakers, regulators, capacitor banks, etc. Performs monthly inspections of substations. Assists in metering, electrician work, staking, pole attachments, and make readies for attachments. Also performs work in an office setting such as keeping records and completing paperwork as required.
Essential Functions:
- Evaluates the needs and resources of the electric distribution system to provide quality service to members.
- Implements both long and short-range maintenance plans and projects pertaining to substations, breakers, regulators, capacitor banks, and other equipment.
- Recommends projects, if proper and justified, for approval.
- Operates computer with software utilized by the company and other electronic devices.
- Understands and communicates electrical safety objectives and procedures.
- Assists other operations department employees as needed.
- Evaluates and inspects substations on a monthly basis. Recommends substation maintenance and testing when needed.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Understand three phase banking, three phase metering, and analyze demand, kvar and power factors.
- Oversee outside contractors performing make ready work for pole attachments and other capital projects.
- Assist with analyzing pole attachment submittals and making work orders for any make ready work needed.
- Meet with members and design electric service to fit their needs.
- Drives and maintains vehicles and equipment in a clean and proper working condition.
- Uses all tools and special equipment safely and properly.
- Observes all REMC safety rules and standards.
- Completes all functions accurately and in a timely manner.
- Assists during large outages or storm events as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication and math skills with an attention to detail.
- Ability and desire to work in a team environment and interact with management staff, co-workers, contractors, and members in a professional manner.
- Ability to work independently and complete projects without supervision.
- Ability to analyze data and provide written reports when needed.
- 5 years of experience in electric distribution.
- Have knowledge of voltages up to 7200/12470.
- Ability to read schematics and diagrams, blue prints, etc.
- Ability to attend training both onsite and/or offsite as required.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with all business information.
Preferences:
- Familiarity of the service territory.
- General knowledge of the operation of a substation.
- Knowledge of electrical distribution systems and how they work.
- Computer experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
- Must be able to handle and use various tools for installations and repairs.
- Does considerable standing, bending, stooping, carrying, lifting, pushing, and pulling, sitting and climbing.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be able to prove eligibility to work in the United States.
- Must be able to pass random drug and alcohol tests, driver’s license checks, and criminal history background checks.
- Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid Indiana operator’s license.
- Must be willing and able to work hours in addition to regularly scheduled office hours, as business needs require.
