We’re currently searching for an assistant director to join our Services for Students with Disabilities team in Blacksburg, VA to help us in our mission. So, if you’re interested, please keep reading.
HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ROLE:
1) You’ll be joining the SSD team; a department centered on providing resources and supports for students with disabilities.
2) You’ll be reporting to the director, in a Regular twelve-month, 100% administrative professional appointment.
3) You’ll be responsible for supervising, training, and evaluating our team who determines reasonable accommodations. You will also independently and collaboratively determine reasonable accommodations for students in a variety of campus environments.
4) You’ll have the chance to grow and take advantage of a developmental plan with opportunities to advance within the Department and the Division.
5) You’ll be offered a base compensation package between $55,000-65,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package which includes health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and so much more!

The TEAM: Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) strives to create an accessible and inclusive campus community. We collaborate with campus partners to remove barriers and meet the individualized access needs of disabled students. SSD supports success through the promotion of student learning and the development of advocacy skills.
Required Qualifications
• Advanced degree in a human services field such as disability services, counseling, clinical psychology, social work, special education, higher education, or a related field; or a bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated success in leading a professional team, including the ability to coordinate and assign multiple work schedules.
• Comprehensive knowledge of federal disability legislation, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Knowledge of assistive/adaptive technology systems used by students with disabilities.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including experience in delivering training or presentations to diverse audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in a higher education setting.
• Familiarity with assistive technologies and accessibility tools commonly used by students with disabilities.
• Knowledge of universal design principles and their application in higher education.
