About the role

Description

Haverford College Seeks a Writing Fellow and Visiting Assistant Professor in the Writing Program.

Haverford College invites applications for a full-time position as Writing Fellow and Visiting Assistant Professor in the Writing Program for the academic year 2026-27, with the possibility of renewal for up to two additional years.

Fellows will teach two topic-based writing seminars each semester, including two sections of a Writing Center-supported course in the fall semester. Haverford’s Writing Center-supported writing seminars serve students selected through a guided self-placement process who would benefit from individualized writing instruction, including multilingual and multidialectal students. Successful candidates will draw on principles of linguistic justice and universal design and collaborate regularly with Writing Center tutors to cultivate inclusive learning environments for a diverse cohort of first-year students.

Our First-Year Writing Seminars are focused upon the academic essay and candidates should be prepared to teach this kind of writing; they should also demonstrate in their application that they are prepared to offer two different seminars that are thematically unified and textually based and which support a field of academic inquiry. One of these should be a Writing Center-supported course. Examples of the kinds of seminars that have been offered in the past can be found on the Courses page of the Writing Program website: https://www.haverford.edu/writing-program/courses.

The position is renewable for up to two additional years, pending a successful review each year and contingent upon annual budgetary approval. This is a full-time and fully-benefited position. The College also provides support for professional development and travel. The appointment begins on July 1, 2026, with classes commencing on August 31. A Ph.D. in English, linguistics, education, or a related field is expected at time of appointment (or ABD with plans to defend by the conclusion of the first year of the appointment). To qualify for appointment, applicants will have held the degree for no more than six years and will have formal training in or substantial experience teaching multilingual and multidialectal writers.

All application materials should be submitted via Interfolio. Applications should include:

1) A cover letter that articulates the applicant’s commitment to inclusive writing instruction and describes two topic-based seminars they might offer, including one Writing Center-supported course.
2) A curriculum vitae.
3) A brief writing sample.
4) Applicants should arrange for three confidential letters of recommendation to be submitted directly by the recommenders via Interfolio.

All applications are due via Interfolio by 11:59 p.m. ET on April 15, 2026.
