Responsible for planning, organizing, and administering patient care within the scope of his/her training and expertise, collaborating with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes is met. This is done in conjunction with the objectives and policies of the hospital and the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Tennessee..
Hours of Position:
Full-time, 36 hours/week, nights (7p-7a)
MUST HAVE PREVIOUS LABOR & DELIVERY RN EXPERIENCE.
The Women’s Services unit includes labor and delivery, postpartum, newborn nursery, and a Level II NICU. We are located on the second floor of Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital. We are a 16 bed unit. The Nurse to patient ratio is 1:1 on L&D, 1:2 for stable NICU patients and 1:5 for postpartum care/newborns. Some of the services provided include:
▪ labor and delivery
• outpatient triage
• fetal monitoring
• specific L&D operating room
for c-sections
• antepartum care
• postpartum care
• couplet care
• level II NICU
• lactation support
• gynecological diagnoses and
other short-stay surgeries
The environment on our unit is fast-paced and dynamic. As a team, we provide high-quality and compassionate care.
We care for adult obstetrical patients and newborns as they transition to extrauterine life. Occasionally, we care for patients undergoing gynecological procedures.
Our patients are unique because we get to support them through life-changing events. Our nurses provide respectful maternity care that honors each birth experience while ensuring a healthy delivery. We also get to be involved as mother and baby transition into the postpartum period. Our expert newborn nursing care impacts the entire lifespan of each neonate.
One of the perks of working on our unit is that we have a strong team that works well together. Our nurses are successful because they are knowledgeable, have critical thinking skills, and aim to provide exceptional care in a rapidly changing environment.
We orient new nurses to our unit by allowing a lengthy 12-16 week orientation where they learn all specialties within the unit.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.
• Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
• Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient's progress towards goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
• Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
• NURSING PATIENT ASSESSMENT & EVALUATION HOME CARE(NOVICE): : Possesses ample fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate the ability to assess and evaluate patients in practical applications of moderate difficulty in the home setting.
