What you'll do
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Software Engineer to join our Cloud Engineering team. The team is responsible for designing, developing and operating the platform on which all Docusign applications will be deployed. The platform allows application code to be deployed globally on a Kubernetes substrate or virtual machines. It also supports a growing number of storage types (SQL, NoSql, Cassandra, Mongo etc.), and built-in connectivity across a global service footprint. Our goal is to provide an end to end experience to all developers that makes it easy for them to develop microservices, deploy them safely to multiple data centers around the world and operate them with minimal disruption. We provide the CI/CD pipeline as well as the guardrails to ensure that application is secure and complies with industry standards such as FedRamp, ISO, PCI, SOC2 etc.
This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Senior Director, Engineering.
Responsibility
Lead the design, development, and maintenance of a scalable, highly available and global application runtime platform
Define and implement best practices for provisioning compute, storage and networking components across multiple data centers
Drive technical strategy and roadmap for platform infrastructure, identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement
Mentor and guide engineers on the team, fostering a culture of continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and technical excellence
Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize infrastructure systems, proactively identifying and addressing performance bottlenecks and scalability challenges
Ensure platform security and compliance by implementing rigorous standards and collaborating with security teams to address vulnerabilities
Advocate for and implement DevOps principles, promoting a culture of automation, resilience, and high-quality software delivery across the engineering organization
Job Designation
Hybrid: Employee divides their time between in-office and remote work. Access to an office location is required. (Frequency: Minimum 2 days per week; may vary by team but will be weekly in-office expectation)

What you bring
Basic
- 15+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with a strong background in distributed systems and cloud computing
- Experience in programming languages such as C#, Java, Go, or similar, with experience in building developer tools and automation frameworks
- Experience with Kubernetes, microservices, storage systems, databases, firewalls, networking and data platforms
- Experience implementing DevOps practices and tools, including monitoring, logging, and alerting, with a focus on reliability and resilience.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions), containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible)
- Experience with security best practices and compliance standards for infrastructure and application deployment
- Demonstrated ability to leverage telemetry data to drive insights, develop actionable improvements, and create innovative metrics that enhance system observability, performance monitoring, and proactive issue detection
Preferred
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex systems and collaborate effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and mentoring abilities, with a track record of leading technical projects and guiding junior engineers
- Deep experience with Azure cloud computing and working knowledge of AWS and GCP
