Job Summary: This position is responsible for supervising employees engaged in the operation and maintenance of water treatment systems. Work includes developing standard operating procedures; making process control decisions; and ensuring adherence to established procedures and regulatory requirements in the operation of water treatment systems. Supervision is exercised over skilled workers and other staff assigned to the process operations.

 

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related technical field
  • 2 years of previous experience in a water treatment position within a manufacturing environment

Preferred Skills/Qualifications: 

  • Registered professional engineer or engineer-in-training, preferred.
  • Computer software and programs: MS Office suite, experience with proprietary software, i.e. purchase orders (Oracle), safety data sheet (EHS Velocity), learning management system (HSI), digital inspections (Safety Culture), etc.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all process equipment is inspected prior to startup and is operational when production lines begin processing.
  • Ensure equipment is kept clean and routine maintenance is performed on equipment for proper operation.
  • Maintain and update all necessary forms, one-point lessons, and process instructions for treatment systems.
  • Track wastewater treatment system performance to ensure efficient and effective operation in meeting all legal and other requirements.
  • Develop and deliver appropriate trainings for water technicians.
  • All other duties as specified by the department manager or supervisor.
  • Maintain appropriate quantities of spare parts and consumables to ensure continuous operation of water treatment systems.
  • Monitors the performance and maintenance of treatment equipment to assure safe and optimum functioning.
  • Maintains appropriate levels of chemical inventory to maintain water treatment process, track inventory, order as necessary, and report usage.
  • Conducts analytical testing at appropriate stages to ensure compliance.
  • Reviews various reports associated with the water treatment process to determine adherence to environmental regulations.
  • Evaluates and recommends changes in methods and procedures in assigned area of responsibility.
  • Monitor and coordinate reliable operation of deionization unit and cooling towers with outside vendor, Maintenance Department, and Technical Services.
  • Collect and submit required samples for analysis by outside laboratory.
  • Prepares reports concerning departmental activities.

Waste Management

  • Ensures employees safely handle and properly manage the various types of wastes.
  • Responsible for proper handling and management of universal waste, non-hazardous waste, and hazardous wastes generated from production processes associated with water generation.
  • Coordinates, tracks and reports waste shipments in compliance with applicable environmental and transportation regulations.
