POSITION DESCRIPTION
- Apply technical experience in field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields, and use other technical resources within the company, to resolve complex problems.
- Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
- Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise.
- Develop solutions to complex technical problems in fields of expertise.
- Keep informed on technical needs within the company and technical trends in area of expertise in the external world.
- Be aware of capabilities of the work group and needs of its customers. Identify technical programs which can be carried out with little guidance and take the initiative to accomplish them.
- Lead task teams for developing solutions to more complex problems. Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving major technical tasks identified by management.
- Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed. Include research, development, testing, quality assurance requirements.
- Communicate the results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form to customers, colleagues, managers and oversight groups.
- Prepare reports for external publication.
DUTIES (SPECIFIC FOR THE POSITION)
- Support the SRNS Nuclear & Criticality Safety Engineering organization in the development, review, and implementation of nuclear safety documentation for various facilities at the Savannah River Site.
- Provide technical assistance in developing and reviewing nuclear safety documents and analyses, technical safety requirements, and related technical support documentation.
- Ensure that the developed nuclear safety documentation complies with requirements and as necessary, applicable controls are implemented in field procedures.
- Conduct Nuclear Safety Program assessments, facility Readiness Assessments {RAs), and Implementation Verification Reviews {IVRs).
- Services shall be provided using SRNS processes and procedures. Programmatic guidance will be provided by SRNS.
Qualifications
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
BS degree and approximately 15 years' experience. Or a MS degree and 12 years' experience. Or a Ph.D. degree and 10 years' experience.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Considered an internal expert in area of expertise.
- Contributes to advancing knowledge in field of expertise through various avenues such as internal and external publications and professional society presentations.
- Can solve complex problems in field.
- Demonstrate a minimum of 15 years of recent experience in the nuclear safety industry through support of the Department of Energy (DOE) or the commercial nuclear industry. Alternate combination of education and experience will be considered where candidate has an advanced degree.
- Familiar with Nuclear Safety Programs and considered a Nuclear Safety Subject Matter Expert. Previous experience in performing and/or evaluating nuclear operations.
