Job Description
SUMMARY
The Quality Control Technician ensures customer satisfaction by executing system audits, parts, inspections, gage usage, training, and monitoring, collecting defective parts data, and providing feedback to production. Learns, conducts self, and completes work in accordance to the McWane Way Principles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- 1st Responsibility – Ensuring personal safety and the safety of team members.
- Assists in daily review of production quality performance by monitoring non-conforming part (NCP) trends, and the development of NCP reduction plans.
- Performs analysis of customer returns or non-conforming material for root cause analysis and corrective action.
- Assists with the generation of Quality Department inspections, logs, and reports (SIR, Holiday Free, Incoming Inspection)
- Ensures measurement equipment is calibrated, validated, and properly maintained.
- Engages team members in the identification of improvement opportunities and relevant countermeasures and controls.
- Maintains and updates the Gage Tracker calibration system.
- Maintains all quality gauges, tracks those gauges as needed for maintenance and calibration and recalls gauges as needed for calibration.
- Inspects recalled gauges for wear and damage. Determines if it is cost effective to repair the gauge or should it be replaced.
- Recommends gauging needed for the inspection of machined components.
- Reviews new work instructions and related drawings for gauge requirements. Determines if gauges are available from current inventory. If new gauges are required, submits purchase request documents to the Machine Shop Manager or Engineering Manager for approval and purchase.
- Inventories all gauges including tracking the work center, machine or team member that the specific gauges are issued to.
- Approves First Piece Inspections when needed.
- Assists with product inspection, testing and sorting when needed.
- Verifies correct drawings and revisions are in the correct work cells. Updates/replaces revised work cell drawings as needed.
- Works with Engineering team to verify that product(s) are being manufactured in compliance to company and customer specifications.
- Assists the Quality Engineer and Quality Supervisor in the development & delivery of product specific Quality Training for all employees.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from a four-year college/university in a technical field; OR Associate degree in related field plus 2 years of experience in a Quality Control related position; OR 4yrs in an industrial manufacturing position; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office Applications; specifically, Excel and Word.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain effective relationships and communicate professionally at all levels of the organization.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with fractions and decimal equivalents. To be able to convert fractions to decimals and in reverse. To be able to convert inches to millimeters
