This role operates at the intersection of analytics, engineering, and operational support, ensuring that data-related requests, issues, and enhancements are resolved quickly and effectively.
The Data Operations Engineer serves as a central technical resource responsible for managing and resolving tickets across the analytics and data engineering ecosystem. This includes troubleshooting data issues, completing ad hoc data requests, supporting analytics initiatives, and proactively reducing technical noise and debt across the data platform.
This role requires strong analytical thinking, technical troubleshooting ability, and a broad understanding of the organization's data systems. The ideal candidate is comfortable diagnosing problems across pipelines, models, dashboards, and data requests while collaborating closely with analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders.
Reports To: Director of Analytics and Engineering
Duties/Responsibilities
Serve as a primary responder for analytics and data platform tickets, investigating and resolving issues related to data, reporting, and system functionality.
Troubleshoot data discrepancies and errors across the analytics ecosystem.
Perform ad hoc data analysis and requests for internal teams, providing timely insights and solutions.
Identify root causes of recurring data issues and work to implement durable fixes that reduce operational noise and technical debt.
Monitor and resolve data pipeline failures, transformation issues, and data quality problems.
Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to escalate or address complex issues requiring deeper engineering work.
Assist in maintaining data reliability by validating datasets, verifying transformations, and supporting data quality initiatives.
Contribute to documentation of troubleshooting procedures, data assets, and operational workflows.
Support improvements to operational processes and ticket workflows to improve resolution time and team efficiency.
Partner with analytics and engineering team members to identify opportunities for automation, simplification, and system improvement.
Help maintain a stable and efficient analytics environment by proactively addressing operational issues and system friction.
Required Skills/Abilities/Knowledge
Strong proficiency in SQL.
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and diagnose data issues.
Experience working with cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly understand unfamiliar systems and datasets.
Ability to translate ambiguous requests into actionable technical solutions.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
Ability to manage multiple incoming requests and prioritize effectively.
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
Experience with healthcare data environments is a plus.
Minimum 2–4 years of experience recommended.
Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related field
2-4 years of experience in analytics, data engineering, business intelligence, or a related technical role.
Experience working with modern data platforms, analytics tools, and SQL-based data environments.
Leveling (I–III) will be determined based on experience, technical breadth, and demonstrated ability to resolve complex data issues.
